Biography

Vitaly Kunin is a Russian chess Grandmaster born in Russia on October 2, 1983. Kunin was awarded the Grandmaster title in 2006, the International Master title in 2002, and the Candidate Master title in 1999. As of May and September 2016, his Peak rating was 2595.

The Beginning

Kunin competed in the 2017 Chess World Cup but was trounced in the initial round by Lê Quang Liêm. Between 1995 and 2021, Kunin has competed in 331 games achieving an overall record of 119 wins, 97 draws, and 75 losses, thus attaining a percentage score of 57.6.

Some of the last tournaments Kunin competed in include; the TCh-AUT 2021-22 held on April 2021 in Austria, DEM 2022 played in August in Germany, the 18th Moscow Open A 2022 held in Russian Federation, and the Norway Chess Open A 2022 held in March in Norway.

Kunin shared fourth to eleventh place at the 2017 European Championship Tournament with 8/11 points.
