Ma Qun is a Chinese chess Grandmaster born on November 9th, 1991. Qun Ma was awarded the title of Grandmaster in 2013. As of August 2022, Qun Ma’s FIDE rating was 2666 while his Peak rating was 2666 as of May 2021.
The Beginning
Qun was a member of China’s gold-medal-winning squad at the 2014 Asian Nations Cup held in Tabriz, Iran, and further won the individual gold medal on the fourth board with a score of 7 points out of 7 games, meaning he won all seven games he contested. In January 2014, Qun shared the top position with Mikheil Mchedlishvili, the overall champion on deciding set score, Igor Khenkin, Mark Hebden, Jahongir Vakhidov, Justin Sarkar, and Jovica Radovanovic, finishing third on points difference.
Notable Achievements
- Qun claimed the silver medal at the first Asian University Chess Tournament in Beijing in 2015.
- In January 2016, Qun finished as the runner-up with Ju Wenjun and Nigel Short in the 2016 New Zealand Open in January held in Devonport, New Zealand.
- Subsequently that year, in Barcelona, Qun triumphed in the International Open of Sants, Hostafrancs, and La Bordeta after a playoff.
- Qun won at the 2019 Chinese Rapid Tournament.
