Being a chess commentator is not an easy job, primarily because chess isn’t as simple as a sport like football. Commentating in a way that is understandable to the most amount of viewers while also being entertaining is a challenge.

With that being said, here are some of the best chess commentators to check out.

  • Kaja Marie Snare
  • David Howell
  • Jovanka Houska
  • Agadmator
  • Levy Rozman
  • Daniel Naroditsky

Kaja Marie Snare

Kaja Snare is a professional sports broadcaster and commentator who has been focused more on chess commentating in recent times since now working full-time for the Play Magnus Group. She is Norwegian as well just like Magnus Carlsen.

Snare gained a great deal of experience while working as a reporter in New York for the 2016 World Championship match while also doing various chess broadcasts.

Kaja isn’t the best chess player, but she is great at commentating. This makes her more appealing to novices and beginner chess players, which is the vast majority of viewers.

David Howell

David Howell works for the Chess24 team as a commentator. What’s more, is that Howell is also a Grandmaster, the highest of chess titles. He holds the record for being the youngest British person to achieve the Grandmaster title, earning it at just 16 years old.

Jovanka Houska

Jovanka Houska is a Woman Grandmaster that also works as a commentator for Chess24. Born in London, she is also a nine-time British Women’s Chess Champion.

She frequently commentates next to another excellent commentator and chess legend, Yasser Seirawan, which makes them an excellent duo that the audience loves.

Agadmator

If there was one commentator that I would listen to every day, it’s this guy. Antonio Redic built one of the best chess YouTube channels in existence called Agadmator.

His process is simple, he goes through a game, most of the time it’s a recent one that just took place, and he commentates on each move, walking you through why each move was played. His channel is one of the best for players to listen to for getting better at chess.

Levy Rozman

Levy Rozman runs the YouTube channel called, GothamChess, and most of his videos is him going through games, making his comments on them. If you want to be entertained while also learning from an International Master, this is the guy to listen to.

Daniel Naroditsky

Daniel Naroditsky is a Grandmaster and one of the best American chess players to ever play the game.

I hope you enjoyed reading this list of the best chess commentators. If you did, you might also be interested in the list of Chess Super Grandmasters.
