Biography

Levy Rozman is a chess player popularly known as GothamChess, one of the best Chess YouTube channels. Aside from having the International Master title, Rozman is also a commentator. Furthermore, he also produces chess-related video content and uploads it on various platforms, such as YouTube and Twitch.

He has massively grown his YouTube channel in August 2020 and started posting chess video analyses and replays. Because of that, he became one of the most-known online chess players. At the time of writing, Rozman has worked with Chess.com as a tournament commentator. Aside from that, many also believed that he is associated with Hikaru Nakamura, a well-known Super Grandmaster player and one of the best Chess streamers.

Currently, Rozman has the spot for being the International Master of Chess. Grandmaster is the highest chess ranking which is followed by International Master. He gained this title from the United States Chess Federation in August 2018. As stated by the International Chess Federation, Levy has the 3,148th spot as the best chess player worldwide.

The Beginning

Rozman was born on 5th December 1995 in Brooklyn, New York. He spent his childhood years in New York and moved to New Jersey as he grew up. His parents noticed his interest in playing chess when he was 6. He joined his initial chess tournament when he was 7. He completed his tertiary levels at Baruch College with a Bachelor’s degree in quantitative modeling and statistics.

Because of his intelligence and ability to checkmate, he gained various titles, including the FIDE Master, US Chess Federation, International Master, and National Master. Before becoming a professional chess player, Rozman first worked in the UBS Wealth Management.

Rozman is known for his aggressive and active playing style. If you watch most of his games, you will notice how passionate and creative he is in making his attacking abilities. He started playing chess in 2012 with Sundararajan as his first opponent. Unfortunately, he didn’t win the battle, and it was followed by Shankland.

He gained his first win against A Gorovets in 2016 with 31 moves only. After that, he achieved multiple victories in his next games, making him one of the best active chess players today.

  • International Master: Rozman gained his International Master’s when he was 23 years old
  • Grand Master: This is the latest chess title acquired by Levy Rozman on 1st April 2022 after winning nine fantastic games.
