A Super Grandmaster (GM) is a Grandmaster that has achieved a rating above the 2500 minimum for the Grandmaster title. Chess players that reach an elo of above 2700 from FIDE are known as Super GM’s.
While it’s not an official term that FIDE uses, the public basically coined this term and started using it to describe GM’s that are just on another level of skill from other GM’s.
Super Grandmaster Chess Players
Daniil Dubov
Super Grandmasters play against grandmasters with ease, like it’s a walk in the park for them. It’s incredible to watch. Daniil Dubov would be an example of a super GM.
If you watch him play other GM’s, it’s as if they were rated 1000 instead of 2600.
Hikaru Nakamura
Hikaru Nakamura is a super grandmaster. He is also one of the most popular chess streamers on Twitch and Youtube.
I watch Hikaru every day. He’s arguably the best chess player that you can watch every day because he is a massive streamer on Twitch and Youtube.
These are just two players that are Super GM’s. For the complete list, refer to the list of Super Grandmasters.
