Biography

Sipke Ernst is a  Dutch chess grandmaster and a Dutch chess champion, and FIDE Trainer. Ernst was awarded the Grandmaster title in 2007 and the International Master title in 1999. Ernst became a FIDE Trainer in 2018.

The Beginning

Sipke Ernst was one of the top Dutch chess players of the 2000s. In the Dutch Chess Tournament, he took home four medals: a silver in 2017 and three bronzes in 2010, 2011, and 2014, consecutively. In addition to Lichfield in 2000 and the Schaakfestival in Groningen in 2001, 2005, and 2006, Ernst has won other international chess competitions.

At the second reserve board of the 35th Chess Olympiad in Bled, Ernst represented the Netherlands in the chess competition in 2002. Furthermore, Ernst represented the Netherlands in the 17th European Team Chess Championship in Novi Sad in 2009 as he competed on the reserve board.

Notable tournaments Ernst played include; Groningen Chess Festival (2013), Bundesliga 2012/13 (2012), Bundesliga 2008/09 (2008), Groningen Open (2019), Bundesliga 2009/10 (2009), European Championship (2012), Gibraltar Masters (2019), and Lindores Abbey Tal Mem (2021)

Notable Achievements

Ernst took home four medals from the Dutch Chess Championship: a silver in 2017, three bronzes in 2010, 2011, and 2014, and one silver in 2017.
