Biography

Sandro Mareco is an Argentine chess Grandmaster, born on May 13, 1987, Haedo, Buenos Aires Province, Argentina. Mareco was awarded the title of Grandmaster in 2010, and the title of International Master in 2008. As of August 2022, Mareco’s FIDE rating was 2657 while his Peak rating was 2666 as of March 2019.

The Beginning

Mareco participated in the FIDE World Cup in 2011, but lost to Ferenc Berkes in the 1st set, lost to David Navara in the 1st set in 2013, trounced Ni Hua in the 1st set, and was defeated in the 2nd set by Anton Kovalyov in 2015, lost to Matthias Blübaum in the 1st set in 2017, lost to Sanan Sjugirov in the 1st set in 2019, and trounced Sami Khader in the 1st set in 2021. Since 2012, he has competed for Argentina in the Chess Olympiad.

Notable achievements

  • In 2007, Mareco won the South American U20 Championship. The next year, he was directly awarded the title of International Master as a result of this win.
  • In 2012, he finished second on countback after tying for 1st position in the Argentine Chess Tournament.
  • Mareco was victorious in the 10th American Continental Tournament in Montevideo, Uruguay in 2015 as well as the Argentine championship.
