Biography

Rail Makhmutov is a Russian chess International Master born on January 01, 1995, in Tbilisi, Georgian SSR, Soviet Union. Makhmutov was awarded the title of International Master in 2018 and the FIDE Master title in 2012. As of October 2022, his FIDE rating was 2447, while his Peak rating was 2471 as of March 2015.

Makhmutov, apart from being a chess player, has been a chess coach for the past five years. Makhmutov trains chess players of various levels and ages and usually hosts training camps at Talent University. To date, Makhmutov receives massive praise from his students for his methods, analysis, and in-depth explanations of how to win chess games.

The Beginning

Rail Makhmutov grew up knowing how to play chess at the young age of 10 years. However, he did not take that as a passion until 2008, when he actively engaged in chess tournaments. As a result, Makhmutov managed to play 291 games from 2008 to 2021. In those games,  Makhmutov won 100, lost 81, and drew 110.

Furthermore, Makhmutov achieved the results while playing with both White pieces (149 games) and black pieces (142 games). While playing with the white pieces, Makhmutov won 55, lost 38, and drew 56. On the other hand, Makhmutov won 45, lost 43, and drew 54 while playing with the black pieces. Notable players Makhmutov competed with include; Nikita Petrov, Alexey Sarana, Fedoseev Vladimir, and Dmitry Tsoi, among others.

Notable Achievements

  • Champion of the Republic of Tatarstan in the age categories of up to 12, 14, and 16 years held in 2007, 2008, and 2009 respectively, in Kazan.
  • Became the title holder of the World Chess Tournament among schoolchildren aged up to 15 years in 2010, occasioned in Kayseri, Turkey.
  • Performed outstandingly and emerged as a two-time winner of Russia among youths under 18 and under 19 from 2012 to 2013 in Loo.
  • Chess champion of the Republic of Tatarstan among men at Kazan in 2013 and Moscow in 2015.
  • Competed at the 2014 European Club Cup held in Spain and the 2015 Moscow Open tournament held in Moscow, which earned him the GM norms.
  • Emerged amongst the best 100 Juniors in the world as per the FIDE rating on more than one occasion.
