Biography
Parham Maghsoodloo was born on August 12, 2000, in Gogan Iran. Maghsoodloo’s qualification for the 2015 World Cup earned him a direct reward for the title of International Master. He was accorded the title of Grandmaster in 2016 with a capitulation of four Grandmaster norms by September. Maghsoodloo won the Iranian Championship thrice (2017, 2018, and 2021) and was the 2018 World Junior Chess Victor. As of August 2022, Maghsoodloo achieved a FIDE rating of 2701 and a Peak rating of 2716 as of June 2022.
The Beginning
The grandmaster began his career while playing in the Under-12 Iranian Youth Championships in 2011 held in Esfahan, attaining a score of 6 points out of 9. The year after, he participated in the Under-12 Tournament held in Slovenia, coming fifth with a score of 8 points out of 11, a point short of players tied in the first place including Samuel Sevian. Maghsoodloo came fifth in the 2013 Under-14 Iranian Tournament held in UAE behind Li Di who clinched the trophy.
Maghsoodloo competed in the 2013 National Tournament which was his first in such a competition and scored 4 points out of 11. The score contributed to the rise in his ratings and proceeded this by clinching first place at the 2014 Mazandaran Chess Tournament. He scored 7 points out of 11 at the 2014 National Tournament coming 4th place behind Omid Noroozi, Ehsan Ghaem, Pouria Darini, and Ehsan Ghaem Maghami. Maghsoodloo emerged victorious in the 2016 Iranian Tournament and followed it up by winning it again in 2017, 2018, and 2021.
In the continental Championships, Maghsoodloo placed sixth at the 2015 Asian Continental Tournament, helping him advance to the 2015 World Cup with five others that was to be played later that year. When the 2015 World Cup competition was staged, Maghsoodloo faced stiff competition from Wesley So who had been paired to play against him in the first round. Maghsoodloo was eliminated from the competition after being trounced in both events.
Maghsoodloo was a participant in the Under-20 World Championship in 2018, a competition he eventually emerged victorious. In addition, that same year, Maghsoodloo triumphed in the World Junior Chess Tournament while still left with one more game to play. He earned a score of 9.5 points out of 11 in the tournament. At the 2FIDE Grand Swiss held in 2021, Maghsoodloo attained a score of 6 points out of 11.
The third Zendeh Roud International, held in Isfahan in 2011, was Maghshoodloo’s inaugural open FIDE-rated event in which elite players competed. Maghsoodloo earned 5.5 points out of 9 on his debut appearance, though not against named opponents. The other strong start was a score of 8 points out of 11, a point behind the leader, in the 2012 Iranian Chess Festival in Hamedan. In 2013, Maghsoodloo tied for the top spot with Aryan Gholami, Amohammad M Soozankar, Mehrdad Sedaghati, and Ali Asadi in the third Esfahan Norooz Cup Tournament. during that year (2013), Maghsoodloo finished 2nd to Homayoon Toufighi in the sixth Baran Cup held in Rasht and 3rd in the 12th Iranian Men Festival.
In the Mazandaran Open Cup held in September 2013, he finished 2nd against Morteza Mahjoob in the Mazandaran Open Cup. He claimed his maiden FIDE-rated open in March 2014, when he clinched the Qazvin Nowruz Open with 9/11, finishing outright top. Maghsoodloo finished a solid joint 4th at the twelfth Avicenna International Open in Hamedan, Iran, in 2014, earning 54 points for this tournament individually. The month later, Maghsoodloo finished 3rd, along with Toufighi and Masoud Mosadeghpour, in the second Khomein Open held in Khomein.In August 2014, Maghsoodloo finished 1st overall in the 13th Iranian Men Festival achieving 10 points out of 11, and a superb 5 points out of 9 at the Baku Open in 2014, garnering 46 rating points. Maghsoodloo finished seventh in the Tata Steel India Rapid and Blitz in 2021.
