During a television exhibition in 2014, Bill Gates played one game of chess against reigning world champion and arguably the G.O.A.T of chess, Magnus Carlsen.
Bill Gates vs Magnus Carlsen – Television Exhibition, London, England, January 23, 2014
Magnus let Bill have the white pieces, a nice gesture from the world champion. Bill played 1. e4 with Magnus following up with the Declined Variation of the Nimzowitsch Defense. Magnus checkmated Bill in just nine moves.
The game received the name, “I’m Just a Bill”, implying that even though he is Bill Gates, one of the most intelligent and powerful people on the planet, he is just Bill and can get destroyed over a game of chess.
