Biography
Gadir Guseinov is an Armenian chess Grandmaster born on May 21, 1986. Guseinov won the title of Grandmaster in 2002 and the International Master title in 2000. As of August 2022, Guseinov’s FIDE rating was 2668 while his Peak rating was 2668 as of May 2022. Guseinov ranked third in Azerbaijan as of May 2022.
The Beginning
Guseinov, who was born in Moscow, began competing in chess through the mentorship of Shahin Hajiev. Between 1994 and 1998, he resided in his hometown and competed for Russia. Guseinov triumphed in the European U10 tournament in Băile Herculane in 1994. In the 2008 President’s Cup in Baku, Guseinov finished first to eight with Nigel Short, Vadim Milov, Aleksej Aleksandrov, Baadur Jobava, Alexander Lastin, Tamaz Gelashvili, and Farid Abbasov. In April 2010, Guseinov shared first to eight place with Viorel Iordachescu, Hrant Melkumyan, Sergey Volkov, Eduardo Iturrizaga, David Arutinian, Aleksej Aleksandrov, and Tornike Sanikidze in the 12th Dubai Open Chess Tournament.
Guseinov was a member of the Azerbaijani team that won gold at the European Team Chess Tournaments in Novi Sad (2009) and Warsaw (2013), together with Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Teimour Radjabov, Vugar Gashimov in 2009, Eltaj Safarli in 2013, and Rauf Mammadov.
FIDE president selected Guseinov to contend in the 2015 Chess World Cup in Baku. Guseinov defeated Maxim Matlakov and David Navara in the initial two stages before falling to Ding Liren in the third.
Notable Achievements
- In 2011, Guseinov won the Ugra Governor’s Chess Blitz Cup.
- In the 2013 Nakhchivan Open, Guisenov shared the top spot with Igor Kurnosov and Aleksandr Shimanov.
- Guseinov won at the Sitges Open in 2018 with a score of 7.5 out of 9 games.
