Darius Zagorskis is a Chess Grandmaster from Lithuania, earning the GM title from FIDE after reaching the 2500 Elo required, making him one of the best Lithuanian chess players in the world.

Biography

Darius Zagorskis is a Lithuanian chess Grandmaster born on November 20, 1969, in Vilnius, Lithuania. Zagorskis was awarded the Grandmaster title in 2013 and the International Master title in 2007.  As  of December 2022, Zagorskis’s FIDE rating was 2411.

The Beginning

Zagorskis underwent training and chess instruction at the Vilnius Chess School. By placing third in the Lithuanian Chess Championship in 1989, Klaipeda experienced its first significant success. Zagorskis competed in correspondence chess competitions with success. In 2005 and 2007, the International Correspondence Chess Federation bestowed upon him the titles of International Correspondence Chess Master and Senior International Correspondence Chess Master.

Lithuanian Darius Zagorskis competed in the European Team Chess Championships: to begin with is at the reserve board in the 16th European Team Chess Championship in Heraklion in 2007, at the third board in the 11th European Team Chess Championship in Pula in 1997, at the second board in the 18th European Team Chess Championship in Porto Carras in 2011, and at the first board in the 19th European Team Chess Championship in Warsaw in 2013 (plus 2 and 3 points, respectively).

Notable tournaments Zagorskis played include; Lithuanian Championship (2013), Lithuanian Championship (2006), Muenster Open (1994), Lithuanian Championship (2009), Wuerzburg Open (1996), Staufer Open (1995), Staufer Open (1996), Berliner Sommer 12th (1994), European Club Cup (2008), Bled Olympiad (2002), Dresden Olympiad (2008),  Turin Olympiad (2006), European Team Championship (2011), European Club Cup (2017), and Khanty-Mansiysk Olympiad (2010)

  • Zagorskis won the “Open” tournament in “Liepjas Rokde” in 2005.
  • Zagorskis has won two gold (2004, 2013), two silver (1991), and four bronze (1989, 2002, 2006, 2007) medals in the Lithuanian Chess Championships
