In the last list of the top Chess players we published, we went over the best Mongolian Chess players. In this article, we’re ranking the best Egyptian Chess players from Egypt, starting with the number ten spot in FIDE. All of these players have achieved the Grandmaster title, having an Elo rating over of 2500. For more information on ratings, see the guide on how to get a FIDE rating.

Abdel Razik was granted the title of International Master in 2009 and the FIDE Master title in 2000. Razik was recognized as a FIDE trainer in 2012 by FIDE. Abdel has a Peak rating of 2480. He has played for Egypt thrice in the chess olympiads- 2012, 2010, and 2008. After making qualifications for the 2009 chess world cup, he was eliminated in the first-round Morezevich Alexander.

9. Ahmed Adly

Born: February 18, 1987

In 2005, Ahmed Adly was accorded the grandmaster title and the title of International Master in 2001. He has a FIDE rating of 2596 and a Peak rating of 2640. He clinched the African chess tournament as well as the Arab Junior chess tournament in 2005. He clinched the world junior chess tournament in 2007, establishing him as the first-ever player from Africa to triumph in a competitive title. Adly is two times Egyptian champion-2007 & 2009. In 2004, he made a breakthrough in the FIDE world elimination tournament.

8. Kareim Wageih

Born: June 15, 1992

Federation: Egypt

Kareim Wageih was presented with the International Master title in 2008 and the FIDE Master title in 2005 and was recognized as a FIDE trainer in 2015. He has played a total of 95 games from 2003 to 2021; he won 39, lost 38, and drew 18, thus equaling a percentage winning score of 50.53 percent. Among the notable tournaments he has played include; ch-EGY 2009, 12th Open 2010, 51st World Juniors 2012, and the Online Olympiad Top DivB 2021.

7. Mohamed Ezat

Born: July 29, 1978

Federation: Egypt

Ezat was granted the International Master title as a chess player and was also recognized as a FIDE trainer in 2013. He has a Peak rating of 2490 and a FIDE rating of 2416. In his chess career, he has represented Egypt in several chess olympiads, including; 2010, 2008, and 2006. He has participated in a total of 159 games between 2003 and 2021. In those particular games, he has won 52, drawn 44, and lost 63, earning him a winning percentage score of 46.54 percent.

6. Essam El Gindy

Born: July 14, 1966

Essam El Gindy was crowned the title of International Master in 2008. He has a FIDE rating of 2416 and a Peak rating of 2527. In 2002, Essam won the Egyptian chess championship, played for his country in chess olympiads in years 2014, 1998, and 1996. Gindy participated in the FIDE World Chess Tournaments in 1999 and 2004 in addition to several chess world cups in years 2007, 2009, 2011, 2013, 2017, 2019, and 2021. He clinched the 2009 Arab chess championship and the 2014 AIDEF chess tournament on a tiebreak.

5. Imed Abdelnabbi

Full Name: Imed Abdelnabbi

Title: International Master

Born: November 15, 1957

Imed Abdelnabbi was conferred with the title of International Master by FIDE in 1985, and also, he was acknowledged as a FIDE trainer in 2005 by FIDE through the issuance of a License. He has a FIDE rating of 2417 and a Peak rating of 2498. Imed was the 1986 individual gold medalist at the chess Olympiad and also represented Egypt at the world team chess tournament in 1989.

4. Adham Fawzy

Fawzy was granted the title of Grandmaster in 2019, the International Master title in 2015, and the FIDE Master title in 2012. He has a Peak rating of 2490 and a FIDE rating of 2474. Fawzy clinched the African Junior chess tournament thrice-2019, 2018, and 2017. Between 2015 and 2022, Fawzy has played 121 games, 43 wins, 33 draws, and 45 losses, and earned an average winning percentage of 49.17 percent. The notable tournaments include; Uganda IM Norm 2022, 4th Sharjah Masters 2021, Online Olympiad Top DivB 2021, and FIDE world cup 2021.

3. Samy Shoker

Title: Grandmaster

Born: January 1, 1987

Shoker was accorded the title of Grandmaster in 2014, the International Master title in 2011, and the FIDE Master title in 2004. He has a FIDE rating of 2491 and a Peak rating of 2517. Shoker competed in the 2013 chess world cup and played for his country at the chess Olympiad in 2014. Shoker has played a total of 582 games; 245 wins, 144 draws, and 193 losses, accumulating to an average winning score of 54.47 percent. Notable tournaments he played include; world Blitz Championship 2021, World rapid championships 2021, 18th Vandoeuvre Open 2021, and TCh-FRA Top 12 2018.

In 2005, Adly was accorded the title of Grandmaster and the International Master title in 2001. He was authorized to be a FIDE trainer in 2015. He has a FIDE rating of 2596 and a Peak rating of 2640. He is a four-time winner of the Arab Youth tournament cup and a 2005 African chess championship champion. Adly also managed to win the 2007 world junior chess tournament establishing himself as the prime player in Africa to win a competitive trophy.

Bassem was accorded the grandmaster title in 2006, the International Master in 2004, and the FIDE Master in 1999. He has a FIDE rating of 2681 and a Peak rating of 2712. Both in his country and the whole of Africa, Bassim is the top-ranked player. He clinched the African Junior chess tournament in 2005, earning him a spot at the 2005 world junior chess tournament. He managed to clinch for the first time the Arab chess tournament trophy while competing at the Arab chess tournament in 2005. He became a bronze medalist at the 2006 Under-18 World Youth, the Arab Men champion in 2006, and the World Juniors in 2008.
